Abstract:
Cardiac surgery accounts for up to 20% of red blood cell (RBC) transfusions in the United States, and cardiac surgery patients are at high risk of perioperative coagulopathy. This webinar will review the risk factors and mechanisms for coagulopathy in this unique patient population. In addition, this webinar will present cutting-edge evidence regarding bleeding and coagulopathy management in cardiac surgery patients, with an emphasis on the use of viscoelastic testing and factor/fibrinogen concentrates.

Objectives:
After this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Evaluate risk factors for coagulopathy in cardiac surgery patients, including mechanisms by which cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) leads to coagulopathy
  2. Apply current and emerging data to guide fibrinogen repletion strategies in cardiac surgery patients
  3. Develop a targeted strategy for coagulopathy treatment in cardiac surgery patients
